‘WORTHLESS’ SCRIPTURES

two-edged sword

There are three meanings for ‘evil’ in the N.T.  We are going to look at the word meaning  ‘worthless’.
Evil – Strong’s number #2556 – def. “worthless” (any action, thought, word)

Scriptures containing the word ‘worthless’:
Matthew 27:23 – (Pilate speaking to the Jews about Jesus)
And he said, “Why, what evil (worthless thing) has He done?” But they kept shouting all the more, saying, “ Crucify Him!”
Mark 7:21
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil (worthless) thoughts, (such as) fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries…
John 18:23

Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken wrongly (‘evil’-badly or amiss), testify of the wrong (‘evil’-worthless words); but if rightly, why do you strike Me?”
Romans 7:19
For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil (worthless thing) that I do not want.
Romans 7:21
I find then the principle that evil (worthless-ness) is present in me, the one who wants to do good.
Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil (worthless), but overcome evil (worthless) with good (beautiful).
Romans 16:19
For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good (‘beautiful’) and innocent in what is evil (‘worthless’).
1 Corinthians 13:5
(Love) does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil (worthless thought or action);
1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil (worthless things), and some by longing for it (worthless things?) have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Hebrews 5:14
But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good (‘beautiful’) and evil (“worthless’).
1 Peter 3:10-12
For,  “THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS,  MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL (worthless) AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT (‘to entrap or bait’) .  “HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL (the worthless) AND DO GOOD;  HE MUST SEEK PEACE (prosperity, quietness) AND PURSUE IT.  “FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS,  AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER,  BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL (worthless).” (Quoted from Psalm 34:12-16)
3 John 1:11
Beloved, do not imitate what is evil (‘worthless’), but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil (a ‘bad -doer’) has not seen God.

Notice anything about those Scriptures?  Pilate, asking the Jews,  “What worthless thing have I done?”  We overcome evil with good. (Speak the Word – “the good news.”)  Love thinks no evil.  Don’t imitate what is evil.  Hmm.  Watch your thoughts and words?  Then with that in mind, let’s consider this.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18
14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers . For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness?
15 What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial*? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?     *-Greek – ‘worthless-ness’
16 What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
17 So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor,
18 And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
James 1:13
Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by [what is] evil (‘worthless’) and He Himself tempts no one.

Are you God’s son? In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden.  And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead–Father, Son and Holy Spirit–and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power]. (Colossians 2:3, 10-AMP)

Conclusion:
Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Depending on which one you love, you will eat that fruit that you love.  Speak and think good (beautiful) and not evil (worthless).

“ This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all .” 1 John 1:5
